About the team:

You’ll join the AI Co-Editing team, a multidisciplinary group focused on designing intelligent, assistive experiences that enhance how users think, work, and collaborate. As a Product Designer on this team, you’ll work across multiple AI-driven initiatives (from automated note-taking to agentic experience and smart ink), shaping how users interact with powerful new capabilities in intuitive, trustworthy ways. Your role will extend across projects, contributing to system-level patterns and user experiences that span platforms. You’ll be supported by a team of AI-focused designers and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in an agile environment, rapidly iterating on ideas and continuously improving the quality of AI-powered features. Your role will be to elevate the overall user experience of our AI features; establishing consistent interaction patterns, ensuring clarity and trust in AI outputs, and pushing the UX quality bar across all AI-powered touch points.

Our team is spread between Asia and Europe. You’re welcome to work remotely from anywhere, with at least 4 hours overlap with the people you’d be working closely with, or you can join us in our Hong Kong or London office. Due to the asynchronous nature of working that Goodnotes has adopted, any time difference will not impact your work-life balance.

About the role:

We are looking for a talented Product Designer with 5+ years of experience and a strong portfolio that demonstrates interaction and interface design excellence across platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting elegant, usable, and intelligent experiences in a multi-platform AI-powered note-taking environment. You will contribute to both core experience design and emerging AI interaction patterns that enhance productivity for our diverse user base.

This is the role for you, if you’re excited to work on the things listed below:

  • Lead end-to-end design of AI-powered features across iOS and cross-platform environments
  • Champion human-centered AI design that empowers users with clarity, autonomy, and agency
  • Collaborate with engineering and product to ensure high-quality implementation across platforms
  • Design interfaces that clearly communicate AI intent, limitations, and confidence levels
  • Support and coach other designers, especially around new AI workflows and user journeys
  • Develop intuitive interfaces that balance automation and user control
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to inform decisions and iterate on designs quickly

The skills you will need to be successful in the above:

  • At least 5 years of product design experience in house
  • A portfolio that shows crisp interaction and visual design, clarity of thought, and depth of process
  • Experience designing for AI-powered products or intelligent systems, such as LLM-based tools, recommendations, or workflow automation
  • Understanding of Apple HIG, Microsoft Fluent, and Material Design principles
  • Strong design and prototyping skills, with the ability to quickly visualize concepts and ship high-fidelity design
  • Ability to work independently and lead through ambiguity while collaborating asynchronously across time zones
  • Experience partnering closely with PMs, engineers, and researchers to define and deliver great product
  • Confidence in giving and receiving critique and guiding junior designers or peers
  • Ability to design within constraints (e.g. regulatory, legal, and data privacy), while maintaining great UX

What else would help you, but is not required:

  • Experience designing productivity tools or collaboration software
  • Familiarity with onboarding flows and user education
  • Comfort conducting your own user research and usability testing
  • A track record of contributing to or managing a multi-platform design system
  • Knowledge of AI ethics, data bias, false positives, transparency, and explainability

Even if you don’t meet all the criteria listed above, we would still love to hear from you! Goodnotes places a lot of value on learning and development and will support your growth if needed.

The interview process:

  • A one-hour interview, including a portfolio review, with the hiring manager
  • A one-hour portfolio deep-dive with designers and cross-functional partners
  • A 45 min interview with AI Co-Editing Engineer
  • A 90-minute whiteboard session with members of the design team to assess problem-solving and collaboration

What’s in it for you:

  • Budget for things like noise cancelling headphones, setting up your home office, personal development, professional training, and health & wellness
  • Sponsored visits to our Hong Kong or London office every 2 years
  • Company wide annual offsite
  • Flexible working hours and location
  • Medical insurance for you and your dependents

Note: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks, including verification of employment, education, and criminal records.
