General Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, coordinate and direct engineering projects.
  • Perform work involving conventional engineering practices, including complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination.
  • Plan and execute research, apply advanced scientific or engineering principles, and make independent decisions.
  • Use complex principles and theories to provide solutions, ensuring improvements are implemented.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with piloting optimization studies, primarily using the mobile pilot plant, and other treatment optimization work at BWW infrastructure.
  • Assist with operations and maintenance of research infrastructure, including analytical and pilot plant equipment.
  • Apply scientific methods to design studies, sampling schedules, and support research data analysis and presentation.
  • Perform engineering for capital projects, manage design and construction projects, prepare specifications, bid documents, and coordinate with purchasing and contractors.
  • Develop project estimates, budgets, and manage project documentation and compliance.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, perform environmental design, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Manage Water Quality Initiatives, including watershed management and treatment processes.
  • Review rules and regulations, perform inspections, and coordinate field tests.
  • Support other departments with engineering expertise, manage multiple priorities, and work with all organizational levels.
  • Develop new research or engineering techniques, plan and direct projects, and participate in strategic planning and funding acquisition.
  • Ensure safety standards are followed and perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

Master’s degree in an environmental-related field, enrolled in a Ph.D. program.

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) license
  • ADEM Grade IV certification or pass within 36 months
  • Professional Engineer license preferred

Experience:

At least 8 years in environmental engineering research, design, construction, and project management, with 5 years supervising technical staff.

Supervision:

May supervise technical staff.

Physical Demands:

Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods. Reaching, finger dexterity, communication skills, visual and auditory ability. Ability to move on construction sites, climb ladders, lift 25 pounds.

Working Environment:

Moderate to loud noise in various environments, indoor and outdoor, exposure to weather and chemicals. Work with lab and pilot equipment with training.
