We’re hiring a Production Team Leader to join our Wash department — a critical area responsible for keeping our optical grading and prep operations running at peak efficiency. You’ll lead a small team, ensure machinery runs smoothly, support lean production practices, and drive performance across safety, quality, and yield.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of operatives to deliver production KPIs and maintain high standards across the Wash area
  • Oversee pre-start checks, machinery setup, and day-to-day operation of grading equipment and washline
  • Monitor team performance, coach and support staff, and maintain up-to-date training records
  • Plan labour and resource allocation in line with short- and medium-term production forecasts
  • Ensure all machinery is cleaned and maintained according to SOPs, and support asset care tasks
  • Collaborate with engineering and planning teams to drive continuous improvement and machine reliability
  • Identify and address underperformance quickly and professionally
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and Health & Safety policies at all times
  • Act as the go-to person on shift for troubleshooting issues, resolving bottlenecks and escalating where required
  • Investigate accidents or near misses, encourage risk reporting, and uphold safety-first culture
  • Lead production trials, gather data, and report findings for operational improvements

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience leading teams in a production or food manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience operating or overseeing machinery such as optical graders (e.g. Celox)
  • High level of computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent numeracy, literacy, and communication skills
  • Skilled in coaching and mentoring others with a collaborative and supportive leadership style
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and the confidence to make decisions in a fast-moving environment
  • Comfortable leading by example on the shop floor and upholding standards
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles is beneficial
