Job Purpose
The Process Technologist is responsible for scaling up concept products post-customer sign-off through to launch. This includes owning the Factory NPD process for assigned products to ensure effective launches, providing practical solutions to challenges in NPD, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires producing comprehensive Product Files to ensure food safety, quality, and compliance, as well as supporting the operations team during first production.
Key Responsibilities
- Factory (60%)
- Plan, organise, and lead factory trials for new products to validate scale-up from kitchen to production.
- Monitor product behaviour during trials and identify potential manufacturing challenges or improvements.
- Produce accurate and detailed trial reports including key learnings, performance metrics, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine best practices and improve factory processes.
- Compile a comprehensive Product File including process flows, trial data, lab results, and validation documentation.
- Formally hand over the Quality Contract to the site Technical team ahead of product launch.
- Office (25%)
- Lead post-trial eating meetings to align with Development Chefs and agree on kitchen matches.
- Organise and submit product samples for microbiological and chemical testing to support product safety and spec development.
- Define and document correct baking/cooking methodologies for each new component or finished product.
- Conduct freeze, tempering, and reheating validations to ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with customer requirements.
- Support the creation of Quality Risk Assessments by contributing factory insights and technical data.
- Customer (10%)
- Collate, label, and pack product samples to be submitted at key development stages for customer evaluation.
- Participate in pre-production and first production runs to support a smooth handover from development to live production.
- Project Work (5%)
- Support continuous improvement initiatives including product quality enhancement, process efficiency, and customer complaint reduction.
