Valterra Platinum Marketing IM requires an experienced lead software developer with knowledge of trading risk management (some or all of market risk, credit risk, KYC, exposure monitoring, operational risk, compliance, master data management, and regulatory reporting) with exposure to the full trade lifecycle for physical and financial trading and marketing to join our team. The Specialist IM Middle Office will serve as the design & development lead for the risk reporting applications, P&L reporting systems, sales operations, counterparty management systems and compliance platforms, while also supporting other development verticals as required.
The role holder will contribute to setting the technology strategy, roadmap and design-direction for software systems (in-house build and commercial off the shelf) in the risk reporting function. They will be a trusted advisor and innovation partner to the Marketing business and combine expert knowledge of the technologies and the applications estate across the commodity trading value chain to deliver—along with the rest of the development team—technology that supports safe, secure, resilient solutions to enable the Marketing business.
The Specialist IM Middle Office will be responsible for developing and maintaining the design patterns knowledge database accessible for their application area. The scope of work will vary in magnitude from working on discrete business processes, supporting complex enterprise-level programs, and running mid- to large-sized projects.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Responsible for the development and implementation of market risk, credit risk, operational risk, compliance and regulatory reporting utilising IM's inhouse CORE framework approach, and in accordance with agreed coding standards, release procedures, architecture and quality standards.
- Design, develop, and maintain tools for market, credit, and operational risk management, ensuring robust functionality for P&L attribution and scenario analysis capabilities.
- Implement and optimize system functionalities to support regulatory obligations, control frameworks, and internal reporting needs.
- Develop scalable solutions for risk monitoring across physical inventories, derivative exposures, FX, and counterparty credit.
- Work closely with risk management teams to gather technical requirements and ensure accurate data processing.
- Build and refine APIs, data pipelines, and automation tools for seamless risk analytics and reporting.
- Continuously enhance system performance, reliability, and security through testing and iterative improvements.
- Support the development and enhancement of tools and systems that facilitate sales operations analytics, tracking & monitoring, and performance reporting.
- Responsible for the development associated with the Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) applications used by Marketing for risk management.
- Contribute to the Marketing IM technology strategy.
- Develop and implement system components and tools inside CORE and COTS risk systems.
- Ensure the knowledge underpinning any new enhancement is documented, managed and maintained.
- Work with the support team to identify, plan and execute service improvements to those systems that are developed.
- Assist support team with any technical queries.
- Understand the business processes and flows to enable the development of solutions.
- Work with project and support teams to manage service introduction and deployment.
Thought leadership & Innovation:
- Responsible for capturing and prioritizing the development work required for the Marketing function in one or more areas of the application estate.
- Proactive contributor to the development and design community of practice, encouraging innovation amongst the community and supporting individuals and teams to share creative ideas to constantly improve the quality of the development deliverables.
- Ambassador for innovation, with the ability to connect relevant technological advancements with opportunity for business improvements.
Quality & Controls:
- Defining and implementing design and development quality controls, standards, and practices to ensure compliance and cohesion between Marketing transformation activities.
- Responsibility for defining and maintaining best-practice, high value, development artefacts.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelor's degree or equivalent), ideally in a technical degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Pure Science).
- It would be advantageous to have a postgraduate qualification in the related business or IM discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
Experience:
- 8-10 years of experience of working in a similar role.
- Role-specific knowledge:
- Essential: Relational database experience (SQL Server).
- Essential: Unit testing and test automation frameworks (e.g. xUnit, NUnit).
- Essential: Basic Knowledge of SAP integration.
- Essential: Experience working In Agile development teams (Strongly preferred).
- Exploratory data analysis (Strongly preferred).
- Data Engineering – Azure Data Factory or Data Bricks (Nice to have).
- Coding (working knowledge of Python) (Nice to have).
- Knowledge of commercial off the shelf risk management applications (e.g. CubeLogic, deltaconX, Behavox) (Nice to have).
- Knowledge of the Aspect trading platform.
Commodities:
- Essential: 5+ years software development in a commodities or financial services firm, ideally metals, but other commodities also possibility.
