My client is currently looking for an Environmental and Sustainability Manager to join their HSEQ team on a permanent basis. This is an opportunity to lead the way in building and implementing a strong environmental and sustainability strategy across all operational areas – including energy assets such as biomass heating, battery storage, and flexible generation sites. The role will provide opportunities to travel frequently to other sites, helping shape a sustainability-first culture in a values-led business that puts people and the planet at the heart of what they do.

Role:

  • Develop and implement the company's environmental management system and sustainability policies, aligning with ISO14001 standards.
  • Lead on gaining ISO14001 accreditation within the first year.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with environmental regulations, emissions testing and permit requirements.
  • Drive energy efficiency, waste reduction and responsible resource management programs.
  • Partner with teams across the business to integrate sustainable practices into day-to-day operations and long-term planning.
  • Report regularly to the Senior Leadership Team on sustainability performance and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide support for environmental incident monitoring and response.
  • Oversee supplier and contractor compliance with environmental and ethical standards.
  • Deliver training to staff on environmental responsibilities and sustainable best practice.

Background:

Essential:

  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • Solid knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience in managing environmental compliance and sustainability across multiple sites.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • A passion for sustainability and an eye for innovative solutions.

Desirable:

  • GradIEMA or similar professional membership.
  • Qualifications in risk or quality management systems.
  • Understanding of energy systems and energy-from-waste technologies.

Objectives:

  • Completing all eLearning and HSEQ inductions.
  • Conducting a full environmental aspects & impacts assessment.
  • Producing a plan and gap analysis to achieve ISO14001 certification.
  • Familiarising yourself with internal systems (Intelex, iHASCO, etc.).

  • Base salary up to £60,000.
