We are seeking an experienced individual to take on the role of Interim CEO to cover the current CEO’s maternity leave. The Interim CEO will play a key role in maintaining stability, managing change sensitively, and ensuring a smooth handover back to the substantive CEO at the end of the maternity leave period. As a small charity, our staff team work closely in a flexible, cooperative working style. Prioritising the best service to our guests, all team members thrive off a fast paced and dynamic environment which varies day to day. We are looking for someone enthusiastic who can be flexible and adaptable in a fast changing and highly rewarding work atmosphere, and that shares the vision of our staff and trustees. This is a fixed-term role responsible for maintaining operational excellence, supporting staff and volunteers, sustaining income generation efforts, and continuing the charity’s strategic direction in collaboration with the Board of Trustees. The Interim CEO will provide stable leadership during this transitional period and ensure the charity continues to deliver impactful services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Key responsibilities:
- Leadership, Management & Governance
- Provide interim leadership and day to day management of GHP’s operations
- Ensure continuity in delivering outcomes aligned with our strategic objectives
- Work within existing governance structures to support informed, effective decision making
- Support and manage staff & volunteers
- Report to the Board of Trustees, together with the Chair of Trustees to develop and set agenda for trustee meetings, attend regular board meetings to provide updates on operations, performance, and strategic progress
- Uphold and implement key operational policies, including Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Data Protection and Equality & Diversity
- Support the handover process, including documenting decisions and key activities for the returning CEO.
- Maintain strong relationships with key partners, including local authorities, funders, service providers, community leaders and supporters
- Manage communications proactively to reassure partners and stakeholders about the continuity of leadership and the organisation’s ongoing work.
- Represent GHP at external events and forums as needed (e.g. Housing Justice Forums)
- Act as a public facing figure for the charity during the maternity cover period
- Oversee day to day financial and fundraising activities in collaboration with the Treasurer and staff
- Ensure continuity in income streams through effective grant management, donor relations and funding applications
- Monitor and report on budgetary performance and fundraising outcomes during the interim period
- Monitor and manage interim financial risk and ensure that major funding deadlines or reporting obligations are not missed during the cover period
- Work collaboratively with the outgoing CEO before the start of maternity leave (if possible) and support an effective handover at the end of the cover period
- Ensure continuity of leadership and service delivery throughout the maternity leave
