The Chief Financial Officer - Construction will be the finance leader for a well-established construction company based out of Tallahassee, FL with a footprint across the Southeast. Partnering with Executive and Operational Leadership, on-site 5 days a week and managing an accounting team.
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join a well-established, industry leading construction company based in Tallahassee, FL. In this key leadership role, you will oversee all financial operations, providing strategic guidance while actively managing the day-to-day financial activities with a small, capable team. This position requires someone who is comfortable being deeply involved in the details while maintaining a high-level strategic focus, typical of a dynamic, medium-sized enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis activities.
- Oversee accounting, job costing, project budgeting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification, and revenue/expense analysis.
- Ensure the company's financial statements are accurate, timely, and compliant with GAAP and industry-specific regulations.
- Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, insurance, bonding, and risk management activities.
- Support operational teams by establishing job cost controls, financial performance metrics, and project profitability analysis.
- Lead and mentor a small finance and accounting team.
- Drive improvements in processes, internal controls, financial systems, and reporting tools.
- Collaborate with the Company President and leadership team on long-term business planning and growth initiatives.
- Manage external relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
The Successful Applicant:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required); Minimum 8-10 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 3-5 years as CFO, Controller, or similar role.
- Previous tenure in the construction management, construction, or real estate development industry is essential.
- Strong knowledge of construction financial management, including WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules, percentage of completion accounting, and contract billing (AIA documentation).
- Proficient in construction-specific accounting software (such as Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or equivalent).
- Hands-on management style with a willingness to dive into details when needed.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and sound judgment.
