The UK Fleet Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring the company’s fleet operations comply with all relevant legal, safety, and operational standards. This role oversees regulatory compliance across the fleet, including vehicle maintenance, driver conduct, licensing, tachograph management, and DVSA standards. The successful candidate will play a critical role in minimising risk, maintaining operator licence compliance, and driving continuous improvement in safety and operational performance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the company fully complies with DVSA regulations and the Operator’s Licence as per the undertakings of the licence
  • Manage the company’s operator’s licences via the online VOL system
  • Creating and updating the companies transport policies and standard operating procedures in line with current legislation
  • Manage the companies Earned Recognition scheme and bi-annual audit
  • Carry out audits of our transport operations ensuring compliance with DVSA and ER standards
  • Carry out audits of internal and external maintenance facilities
  • Work with the driver trainers to create content for online and in person driver training
  • Develop bespoke driver CPC training program in conjunction with business and legislative requirements
  • Monitor the Vision tachograph system and work with the driver compliance managers to address any issues
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the company’s driver handbook
  • Chairing the monthly operator’s licence governance meeting
  • Be the focal point for Managers concentrating on all aspects of fleet and driver compliance
  • Create technical alerts to inform the business of changes to legislation or significant events
  • Carry out other tasks as needed by the senior transport team

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a transport compliance or fleet management role, ideally in an HGV environment
  • In-depth knowledge of HGV regulations, tachograph legislation, vehicle maintenance schedules and Operator Licensing requirements
  • Experience using fleet management and compliance software
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • CPC International/National for road haulage qualification
  • Category B driver’s license

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the carriage of dangerous goods and hazardous waste regulations
  • Knowledge and implementation of FORS accreditation
  • Experience in the waste industry
  • IOSH Managing Safely/Leading Safely

  • Organisational skills - Making sure all maintenance records are up to date and compliant, services/MOTs are booked in advance, preparing for changes in procedures/legislation
  • IT skills including Microsoft office and cloud-based compliance systems
  • Good understanding of current legislations and keeping up to date with any legislative changes
  • Being pro-active and using initiative - Looking for solutions to problems, looking for ways to make the company more efficient and/or more profitable without being instructed to do so first
  • Approachable attitude - Build good relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers
