Exciting opportunity for an ambitious Mechanical Design Engineer / Draughtsman to join a well-established engineering firm. Weβre looking for someone with 5β10 years of experience, a strong background in manufacturing, and a solid understanding of mechanical components within precision engineering. The client produces specialist, bespoke designs for their customers.
Responsibilities:
- End-to-end oversight of machining jobs and projects, including quoting and estimation
- Modelling and reproducing part/assembly drawings from customer drawings or sketches using AutoCAD or Inventor, applying correct tolerances and geometric dimensioning
- Measuring supplied parts/samples and producing accurate drawings
- Engineering bespoke solutions for special-purpose components
- Liaising with customers to clarify requirements and technical details
- Sourcing technical engineering data (e.g., parts, materials)
- Performing DFM/feasibility assessments (can we make it? how do we make it? is it viable?)
- Providing 3D CAM model data to the machine shop
- Issuing jobs and drawings to the machine shop
- Performing measurement checks on machined parts
- Data entry, including logging orders and managing the work scheduler
Requirements:
- Qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Excellent manufacturing knowledge β able to visualise concepts and communicate ideas clearly
- Minimum 5 years in a similar role
- (We will also consider applicants from roles such as Development Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Mechanical Development Engineer. May suit someone who has progressed from the shop floor and is confident with 3D CAD.)
- Proficient in 3D CAD β ideally AutoDesk (Inventor), but other mainstream packages also acceptable
