Buro Happold's Energy Consulting team is looking for a Senior Energy Engineer to join our vibrant and friendly team in Edinburgh. Based in our Bread Street office near Edinburgh Castle, with hybrid working options. Expect the exceptional at Buro Happold. Our UK Energy team is part of Buro Happold Cities and comprises over 50 engineers, scientists, geographers, and commercialization consultants. The team works throughout the project lifecycle, from national-scale spatial energy system analytics to detailed design of innovative district energy and smart grid installations. The team is distributed across Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, and London. The Edinburgh office has over 86 multidisciplinary team members and 5 energy consultants with diverse professional backgrounds working on local, national, and international projects.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of UK energy policy and regulatory drivers of energy and carbon efficiency across various project scales.
  • Technical expertise in the sizing, design, operation, and implementation of low and zero carbon technologies within district energy systems.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Degree in a related discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, energy, physics, environmental science) and professional registration (e.g., CEng) or working towards it.
  • Experience with building-integrated and utility-scale energy systems, building energy performance, and standards.
  • Experience in economic modeling for feasibility studies and option appraisals.
  • Experience developing detailed feasibility studies for campus or city-scale energy systems.
  • Knowledge of CIBSE Heat Network CP1 2020 standards.
  • Experience overseeing district energy project construction and delivery as a client or owner's engineer.
  • Ability to research and evaluate new energy technologies, policies, and services.
  • Site visit experience to assess existing heat and electricity systems and identify low-carbon opportunities.
