The Role: Eight Sleep is looking for a R&D Data Scientist who has experience working with human physiology data, analysing data from large human-research studies, and working on biometric insights for new features. The R&D Data Scientist will be responsible for literature review for data analysis, experimental design for A/B testing based on analyses, exploratory data analysis for new features, insight generation for members, data analysis of novel R&D experiments, and potentially, co-writing white papers and blog posts.
The research studies at Eight Sleep will include internal product validation, new prototype testing, new feature development, and large-scale, external validation studies. This role will report to the Director of Science & Clinical Research at Eight Sleep, on the Research & Development team. This position is ideal for a scientist looking to work with a highly collaborative and scientifically rigorous team. This is a full-time position with benefits, and the position is based out of Boston.
Location: Team is based out of the Boston area, and required to come into the office 3 days/week: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday or Friday.
What You’ll Help Build:
- Literature review & experimental design for new features, data analysis, and experiments: Ability to review the literature for understanding of physiological changes with temperature regulation and sleep, new exploratory analyses and features.
- Data engineering: Ability to parse, time-align, and manage data from multiple sources for data analyses.
- Data analysis (statistical analyses and exploratory analyses): Data analysis of our R&D studies. This may include validation studies as well as experimental analyses for new features.
- Exploratory analyses for new feature generation of current datasets. Ability to think abstractly and openly about a dataset and to uncover key insights from big data.
- You will co-write publications, including blog posts, white papers, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Insight generation: Use machine learning techniques to develop new insights for members that link Pod temperature to physiological changes during sleep.
What You’ll Need To Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Physiology, or similar.
- 2 years of work experience as a Data Scientist, including 1+ years of human physiology data analysis in wearables.
- Minimum 2 years coding experience in Python or R; if in R, must be willing to learn Python.
- Must be able to run common statistical tests in Python/R.
- Adept at data visualization & communicate findings cross-functionally.
- 1+ years of supervised and unsupervised machine learning experience.
- Superior communications skills, excellent time management & organisational skills, high attention to detail, and ability to quickly adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with deploying algorithms into production.
- Proficient in SQL and Github.
