The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in the UK's Building Services sector. They design, develop, and deliver a wide range of offsite-prefabricated, innovative, and sustainable building service solutions throughout the UK & Europe. They specialise in the design, supply, and installation of prefabricated energy solutions, typically built in NI and shipped throughout the UK & Europe. They also offer turnkey design, build, and operate solutions for commercial energy centres and large-scale district heating solutions, with experience in delivering similar packages to public bodies across the UK & Europe.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to hire a Purchasing Manager to support their procurement team in Birmingham. This is a permanent position and offers a great opportunity for career development within a dynamic company.

Role

The Purchasing Manager will manage the company's procurement strategy, ensuring cost-effective and timely acquisition of goods and services for projects. They will oversee procurement processes, coordinate with accounts, and ensure smooth order processing from request to invoicing.

Job Details

  • Location: Birmingham
  • Hours: 38 hrs/week, Mon-Thurs 8:00am-5:00pm, Fri 8:00am-3:00pm
  • Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
  • Reports to: Head of Procurement

Key Responsibilities

  • Core Responsibilities: Lead and develop the purchasing team, providing guidance and monitoring performance. Ensure staff are trained in procurement best practices.
  • Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and broaden supplier base. Negotiate terms, pricing, and contracts. Manage key supplier relationships and monitor performance using KPIs.
  • Cost Control and Budgeting: Manage procurement budgets and track performance. Identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Process Improvement and Reporting: Develop procurement policies and procedures. Utilize procurement software for data tracking. Generate reports on cost savings, supplier, and project performance.
  • Purchasing Operations: Oversee purchase orders and approvals. Manage internal material tracking systems. Coordinate with internal departments to confirm specifications. Implement procedures to improve KPIs and department performance. Ensure consistent service delivery to stakeholders. Sourcing materials efficiently from multiple vendors.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

  • Essential: At least 5 years of senior procurement experience. Experience managing and developing a purchasing team. Strong knowledge of procurement processes and supply chain management. Negotiation skills and supply chain interaction experience. Ability to manage workloads and meet targets. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Desired: Relevant qualification in Supply Chain/Procurement. Experience managing large material orders and using Viewpoint for Projects (4P). Experience with mechanical/electrical material ordering. Highly organized with attention to deadlines.
