The team is part of a large talented strategy and policy community which works with partners internally and externally to address complex regulatory challenges and manage risk on a wide range of difficult and sensitive issues. We work in a collaborative way to identify, clarify and articulate what the NMC \’thinks\’ about specific issues relating to our statutory purpose and solve problems using evidence and insight. Our work ranges from ensuring our international registrations requirements offer fair access to our register to leading the organisation in responding to statutory inquiries and independent reviews. Whatever we do we share learning and insights which enable us to regulate, support and influence more effectively. About the Role Salary Details: London GBP 56,174 – GBP 62,416 Edinburgh GBP 52,241 – GBP 58,046 Please note we are currently recruiting for 1 fixed term contract for 12 months As a Policy Manager within the team, you will be in a unique position to help shape how we at the NMC address complex regulatory challenges and manage risks on a wide range of sensitive issues. Working with the rest of the team, you will have the opportunity to have a varied profile of work. This will include supporting our work in responding to statutory inquiries and independent reviews. You will also be involved in dealing with other requests which come to our team, including responding to consultations and other work, as required. About You We are looking for someone who can work well within a team environment to create robust, evidence-based policy. The right candidate needs to be a self-starter who can find ways to drive their work forward whilst effectively dealing with challenges along the way. You will be experienced at using a wide range of evidence to develop innovative solutions to challenging problems. We are looking for someone who has either managed or helped guide others to solve problems and can make an impact. You will need to be comfortable working with complex issues and interpreting highly technical information and motivated by contributing to public protection. Benefits 30 days annual leave. Second, we maintain the register of professionals eligible to practise. Third, we investigate concerns about nurses, midwives and nursing associates – something that affects a tiny minority of professionals each year. Additional Information Successful candidates will be appointed to a particular NMC Office, but you may be required to travel to other NMC locations, that are reasonable daily commute from your home office. Hybrid Working Policy We are currently working to a policy of office attendance for two days per week with the rest of the time working from home. Before making your application please ensure your able to commit to working in one of our office locations twice per week. If you are applying for a part time role please pro-rata office attendance based on number of day you would be working. Our Pay Policy It is expected that staff new to the NMC will ordinarily be appointed to the bottom of the relevant pay band. However in exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a salary above the bottom of the relevant pay band but we may request proof of current earnings. Please note that we offer an annual review of salaries and adopt a generous progressive pay approach. Further details of which are available on request.
