The Council Revenues Service is responsible for Billing, Collection and Recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit Overpayment & Sundry Debt. We are looking for enthusiastic and positive individuals to work as part of a team responsible for administration and processing within the Revenues Service. We welcome collaborative thinkers, excellent communicators and people who are enthusiastic to develop skills across a broad section of the service.
You should be able to demonstrate a clear customer focus with well-developed customer service skills, balanced with a commitment to effective service delivery. We are looking to appoint to our Council Tax Billing 1 Team, a permanent, full-time post of 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
For this role you will need a range of skills and experience, including:
- Experience and knowledge of general Council Tax Procedures and legislation.
- Experience and knowledge of accurate Billing across different Council Tax functions and various income streams.
- Experience and knowledge of high accuracy processing of Billing work types such as Students, varied discounts & exemptions, payments, moves, arrangements.
- Experience of billing, collection and recovery with a broad knowledge of maximising revenue.
- Well-developed I.T. skills, familiar with Revenues and Benefits processing systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications particularly Excel and MS Word.
- Experience and knowledge of a customer focused approach to service delivery, balanced with the needs of the service users.
- Experience of dealing with internal & external customers via all available communication channels.
The position is based at our Howden House office, town centre, and we currently operate a hybrid working pattern with the expectation of 20% attendance in the office. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria of this job are guaranteed an interview.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade. Equality of pay is extremely important to us. All roles at Sheffield City Council are going through an evaluation process which may result in changes to some pay arrangements from 2026.
