Job Location: Derby with various travel to site

Shifts: Days Mon-Fri with flexibility to work weekends when required

Salary: 40 - 42k per year depending on experience

Expenses: Travel and accommodation when required

This role is a site based role and requires strong organisational and inter-personal skills. The candidate will be expected to work autonomously as well as part of a team and will be responsible for delivering to their individual targets. The candidate will take a proactive role in ensuring that the full ranges of services are delivered on time, within budget and in line with the necessary safety and quality standards. The candidate will be able to demonstrate a broad depth of thinking, allowing them to consider the impact of their decisions before acting and use this skill to deliver a successful project. The role is both technical and practical.

Principal Duties:

This role is primarily acting as the SPC (Site Person in Charge) but also as a member of the installation team as and when required. The candidate will report to the DB ESG Project Manager on a day to day basis during an install, feeding back on progress of the Project.

The key requirements are:

  • HSQE
  • Ensure all activities are undertaken in line with the method statement.
  • Be responsible for the health and safety of the team on site.
  • Ensure all activities are undertaken in line with local safety regulations and regulatory legislation.
  • Maintain a tidy workplace including the disposal of recycling/waste into the appropriate streams.
  • Managing the fatigue of team members.
  • Delivery
  • Ensure that the project meets the delivery plan, and all records/documentation are completed.
  • Liaise with the DB ESG Project Manager reference progress to plan.
  • Liaise proactively with depot management to ensure vehicle availability.
  • To support the install team by being 'hands on' if required.
  • Be responsible for final testing and sign off of each installation.

Role Responsibilities

  • Complete vehicle record sheets appropriately and distribute as required.
  • Ensure that materials are available as required including consumables - reporting shortages where required.
  • Assess competence of vehicle modification sub-contract labour.
  • Manage attendance to ensure the installation team is on site when required and all timesheets are completed and submitted on time.

Quality

  • Ensure that each installation is delivered to the requirements of the design and the client.
  • Liaise with the DB ESG Project Engineer reference technical issues.
  • Complete checks of critical work to maintain consistency.
  • Ensure that tools and equipment are maintained and used correctly.
  • Ensure that each installation meets the standard agreed with the client.
  • Ensure that client assets are protected.

Person Requirements

  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate the following qualities:
  • Have an appropriate qualification in a manufacturing qualification, e.g. apprentice trained fitter/electrician.
  • Vehicle modification experience in a rail environment.
  • Engaged with the supply chain, materials and labour suppliers.
  • Ability to develop business/site support team.
  • Ability to develop relationship and opportunities with clients.
  • Be able to lead and motivate a team to deliver the requirements of the project.
  • Be a good communicator at shop floor and management level.
  • Have experience of working in a rail depot environment.
  • Be able to use a laptop and other IT equipment in a variety of disciplines.
  • Be flexible to meet the requirements of the job.
  • Be honest, trustworthy and dedicated.
