Colchester Institute is looking for a part time Technician to carry out technician responsibilities that require a high level of technical expertise and competence. This includes supporting the curriculum by working closely with both staff and students, demonstrating the use of resources, and ensuring that all media software tools, materials, equipment, and resources are well-maintained and readily available, contributing to a high-quality and effective learning experience.

About the Role:
- Deliver engaging technical demonstrations and provide one-to-one or group assistance with digital media software and equipment, supporting students in their learning.
- Maintain, monitor, and service curriculum software tools across key creative areas, including 3D Design, Games Design, Film/Moving Image, VFX, and Virtual Reality, ensuring all systems are in excellent working order.
- Prepare, maintain, and repair digital media equipment and resources.
- Assist with basic practical assessments of students.
- Collaborate with the Information Learning Technology (ILT) team to support the department’s IT requirements and help ensure the smooth running of the Media computer suites.
- Provide technical support to staff and students during teaching sessions.
- Ensure that workshops, studios, and classrooms are safe, clean, well-organised, and meet high standards of health and safety.
- Monitor stock levels & inventories.
- Conduct PAT testing across media areas as required.
- Carry out relevant administrative tasks.

Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics (e.g. GCSE grade 4/C or above).
Essential Experience:
- Experience providing support to stakeholders, preferably students and staff within an educational or creative environment.
- Experience in setting up, maintaining, and repairing audiovisual and media equipment or similar technology.
- Hands-on Experience with Digital Media Software and Tools.
