Reporting to the Professional Head of Engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in transforming how we maintain and manage our fleet—bringing innovation, insight and impact to every mile we move.
What you’ll do
You’ll lead the charge in reducing asset failure risk across our mainline operations by introducing cutting-edge maintenance strategies—some of which may be brand new to the rail industry. Your work will directly enhance the reliability, availability and performance of our DRS vehicles. From analysing fleet data and identifying trends to driving root cause investigations and implementing preventative measures, you’ll be the go-to expert for technical reliability. You’ll also be a key voice in our reliability forums, presenting insights and influencing decisions that shape the future of our fleet.
What you’ll bring
- HNC or higher in a relevant engineering discipline
- Working towards or holding membership with a professional engineering body
- Proven experience with T&RS, MAXIMO, Power BI, TOPS, and SAGE
- Strong grasp of FMEA, ALARP, cost-benefit analysis, and reliability methodologies
- Deep understanding of maintenance regimes and data visualisation
- Analytical mindset with a proactive, self-driven approach
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Your impact
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading reliability improvement projects from concept to delivery
- Producing transparent reports on efficiency, reliability and productivity
- Managing cross-functional teams and external partners
- Driving KPI development, MTIN/MTBF calculations, and trend analysis
- Acting as a key contact for external stakeholders and customers
- Supporting technical investigations and continuous improvement initiatives
Collaboration is key
You’ll work closely with teams across Engineering Production, Performance, Control, Supply and Technical—as well as external freight and train operating companies. Your ability to build relationships and influence across all levels will be critical to your success.
