Job Title: Biomedical Scientist – Histology

Location: London

Hours: 37.5 Hours per week, Monday – Friday

Contract Type: Permanent

We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist – Histology to join our Histology team. Our laboratory provides pathology services for various sectors, including acute care, IVF Clinics, healthcare screening, and GP services, with over 35 years of expertise. We cover a wide range of disciplines in pathology and utilize the best available analytical equipment to ensure high-quality results.

As a Biomedical Scientist – Histology , you will collaborate with senior staff and Section Heads to manage day-to-day operations and ensure the effective delivery of our Histopathology services. This role requires the application of your skills and knowledge in Histology to contribute to the efficient and high-quality service provided by our team.

Duties & Responsibilities: Biomedical Scientist – Histology

  • Ensure efficient delivery of laboratory services, following established policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the code of practice of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and HCPC, maintaining ISO 15189 (2012) and UKAS accreditation.
  • Perform both routine and complex tissue analysis and investigations using specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Take responsibility for delegated tasks related to the organization and delivery of a clinical pathology service with high patient care standards.
  • Support the training of new staff and assist in introducing new techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with the supervisory staff and Pathologists to improve processes and methodologies.
  • Participate in rotating through all areas of the department.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of samples and perform laboratory techniques in line with departmental SOPs, such as QC of slides, frozen section techniques, biopsy transfer, embedding, microtomy, and special staining.

What you’ll bring: Biomedical Scientist – Histology

  • Degree in Biomedical Science or similar (MSc desirable)
  • HCPC Registered
  • Experience in a Histology lab
  • Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
  • Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences is desirable
