Job Purpose/Overview: NATS is recruiting a Network Engineer specialising in the design & delivery of change to join our Network Design team based at Whiteley or Prestwick. Providing expert knowledge of a wide range of systems with an emphasis on Networking and communication systems.
Other duties include:
- Ensuring the design and subsequent development of Networking systems meets the needs of the work package as well as the expected integrity and reliability standards applicable in NATS.
- Technical supervision of staff resources to achieve business objectives as set by the Work Package Manager.
- Generation and elicitation of requirements; interface and test specifications necessary to procure, implement and accept the allocated system/sub-system.
- Delivery of in-service system engineering and related technical documentation.
- Maintain an awareness of technical developments that may affect the system or area of work for which the job holder is responsible and plan for their impact.
- Provide technical recommendations on suppliers as part of the bidding and tender evaluation process.
Essential skills and experience:
- Professional engineering qualification to Higher National Certificate (Level 4 or SQF Level 7) as a minimum in Electronics, Telecommunications or Computer Science or other relevant Engineering discipline.
- In lieu of the above qualifications, the candidate will be required to demonstrate one of the following alternative criteria: Relevant lower level engineering qualifications such as an Apprenticeship coupled with demonstrable experience in a relevant field (Such as Military, Telecommunications or Technology environment).
- Evidence of substantial experience gained in a relevant transferable environment gained over a significant period and holds or has held relevant certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA).
- Ideally, the job holder should have a good working knowledge of the System Engineering principles.
- Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and testing complex networks.
- Experience in multiple vendors is preferred (Cisco/HP/Aruba/Juniper/Fortigate/Palo Alto/Checkpoint).
- Be knowledgeable of and apply relevant Cybersecurity policies and best practices for Operational Systems Networks.
- Knowledge of major routing protocols & deep packet inspection is an advantage.
- Industry certification related to this role is desirable, such as Cisco CCNA & CCNP.
