I am now hiring for a senior level Front Office focused Software Engineer, with proven expertise building and configuring Commodities trading platforms to join a growing Gas & Power business in the City. This is a hands-on role for an expert engineer who will oversee the integration of a new vendor platform and evolve the product with a range of custom applications and features to suit the needs of the Traders, as well as Ops teams.

My client is building out an Algo trading business, with leaders from Quant Analytics, Infra/Apps, and other areas already on board. This strategic position will lead on the integration of a soon to be selected vendor platform (pending RFP), plumbing in the product, modifying features and building/managing APIs, as well as connectivity to internal platforms and teams (Quant Analytics, Risk/Reg Reporting, etc.). Ultimately, taking the business on a software journey, delivering faster solutions, internalising trading functions and evolving the firm into a build-based environment, with its own end-to-end ETRM platform.

Whilst there is budget and a plan to hire App Support, this is a very hands-on role for an Engineer who loves to code, as well face off to the business, define requirements and ensure exceptional outcomes. So the ask here is for a high performing, technical (Full Stack) Engineer who is entrepreneurial and can wear a lot of hats, advise and communicate challenges with the business and exec. There is a likely path to CTO for this position, based on a 4-5 year timeline and having fully optimised the platform.

Baseline requirements:

  • Expert level, Full Stack software engineering capabilities
  • Proven history building Front office trading platforms
  • Strong experience of delivering microservices
  • Detailed business knowledge across Commodities (Ideally Power/Gas) trading
  • Flexible, adaptable and proactive outlook on the design/realisation of solutions
  • Ideally qualified to MSc level or above
  • Happy to work in office as much as is required
