Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also committed to making a difference because we care. AMP8, our next five-year regulatory period, will see us launch our biggest and most complex investment programme of nearly £13bn, with £6bn delivered through our capital programme. This is more than double the size of AMP7 and presents an opportunity to drive real change.

Our new Plug and Play approach will consist of common parts that can be connected in various ways to create different products, like rigs or tanks. They can be mixed and matched, providing a ready-made catalogue of standard products that arrive pre-assembled. This innovative approach aims to address challenges in water and waste infrastructure, flooding, and water quality, benefiting communities, health, and the environment. Our Plug & Play methodology will enable us to build smarter, faster, safer, greener, and more affordable projects.

If you're looking for a challenging and impactful career, we’d love to talk to you. We are seeking a Principal Design Engineer to work within our Plug & Play team, delivering for the future.

  • Lead quality assurance for design deliverables.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet customer, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
  • Develop innovative civil engineering designs from first principles, challenging norms and ensuring feasibility and safety.
  • Act as principal designer for prototype programmes, e.g., water tank prototypes.
  • Mentor and develop team members and design managers.
  • Create functional design specifications considering civil engineering, CDM regulations, health & safety, buildability, and legislation.
What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Experience in civil engineering within an R&D environment.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative design solutions and validate their reliability.
  • Experience working to standards, codes, and manuals.
  • Strong coaching and team development skills.
  • Stakeholder influence and management experience.
  • A degree or equivalent in civil engineering.
