The Domestic Abuse Video Response Team sends victims of domestic abuse a video link to immediately connect them to a uniformed officer or support investigator to deal with their matter in place of waiting for an officer’s physical attendance. The successful applicant will engage with victims over video calls, recording offences and updating crime reports, provide safeguarding advice and support to victims to ensure both their initial and ongoing safety, complete any required referrals and participate in internal/external multi-agency meetings to lawfully share information to protect vulnerable victims and achieve best outcomes.

Applicants will need:

  • Experience of dealing with people in extremely difficult and sensitive circumstances in a compassionate manner.
  • The ability to relate to people at all levels and work with victims and internal and external partners in complex and demanding situations.
  • A proven ability to record high standard Athena investigations, with a focus on the requirements for domestic abuse investigations in terms of up to date legislation and current Force policies.
  • The ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision, making considered decisions, particularly around risk assessments.
  • The ability to take statements and an awareness of the judicial process e.g. court appearance, bail conditions etc.
  • A background in any related discipline i.e. victims of child protection, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, or with vulnerable adults in a multi-agency environment; applicants who are ABE trained would be beneficial.

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of dealing with members of the public/vulnerable people whilst exercising a high degree of professionalism.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills at all levels in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven ability and experience of writing accurate reports.
  • Proven ability to prioritise and manage workloads to strict deadlines, demonstrating a flexible and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to make considered decisions as part of a team using own initiative.

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Previous experience of working within a team environment.
  • Previous experience or knowledge in the investigation of crime.
  • Awareness of law and associated procedures, particularly Data Protection Act 1998, Management of Police Information (MOPI) guidelines, National Intelligence Model (NIM), Criminal procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA) 1996, Criminal Justice Act 2003 (as amended), Regulation of Investigative Powers Act (RIPA) 2000.

Hours of work are 37 per week on a rotational shift pattern operating between the hours of 0800-2200 Monday – Sunday, although part-time hours will also be considered. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
