As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you must be able to think outside of the box and come up with simple, effective solutions to complex problems. You will be required to utilise software such as Solidworks and Ansys and work with the design and build team in a fast paced environment where quality counts. You will be responsible for your own work but also mentor graduate engineers and apprentices as and when required.
Responsibilities
- Work accurately on projects ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity, in accordance with the design briefs given.
- Ensure all documentation is correctly produced in accordance with company and client procedures and securely filed.
- Identify any design issues and changes as soon as they become apparent.
- Work within the company’s ISO9001 quality systems.
- Manage safety by design, ensuring compliance with all legal and company procedures and work with a positive and proactive attitude to safety.
Requirements and Qualifications
Person Specification
- Experienced and competent Mechanical/Electrical Engineer.
- Skilled in the use of one or more of the following: Solidworks, Ansys and StaadPro.
- The ability to produce accurate calculations, models, drawings, specifications and O&M manuals.
- Ability to produce Design Risk Assessments.
- Ability to work unsupervised when required.
- Good understanding of metallurgy and fabrication techniques.
- Problem solving.
- Working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Competent use of Microsoft IT systems – Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Committed to CPD and training.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualified and preferably a Chartered Mechanical Engineer.
- Prior experience in the design of access and maintenance platforms/gantries is essential; bridge gantry experience would be an advantage.
- Experience in materials handling.
- Knowledge of controls systems desirable.
- Experience within some or all of the following sectors: Energy, Nuclear, Heavy Industry, Bridges, Slip-forming.
