About The Role The role of a Port Security Officer. As a Port Security Officer, you will be tasked with monitoring and enforcing security measures at port facilities, responsible for preventing unauthorised access, safeguarding port assets, responding to security incidents, and ensuring compliance with maritime security regulations, including the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. In this role, you will be essential in welcoming cruise ship passengers to Northern Ireland. This rewarding responsibility entails creating a positive first impression and ensuring that visitors enjoy a seamless, pleasant, and unforgettable experience from the moment they arrive. Job responsibilities The role will involve Security Surveillance where you will monitor and control access points, conducting physical inspections to detect any unauthorised activity or potential security threats within the port. You will be responsible for Access Control , ensuring that only authorised personnel and vehicles enter the port. This includes verifying credentials such as port passes and conducting vehicle inspections to maintain a secure environment. In addition, you will carry out Patrols and Inspections , performing routine and random checks throughout the port to monitor for security risks, breaches, or suspicious activities. You will also inspect deliveries to ensure they have not been tampered with or used for illegal purposes. In the event of an issue, you will be tasked with Incident Response , managing security incidents such as threats or breaches, taking appropriate actions to prevent harm, and escalating situations to senior authorities as necessary. Your role also includes implementing Emergency Procedures in situations like fire, flooding, bomb threats, or hazardous material incidents. You will assist with evacuations and secure the area to ensure the safety of passengers, visitors, and staff. You will maintain Compliance and Documentation , ensuring the port adheres to relevant security laws, regulations, and standards, such as the ISPS Code and local security regulations. You will keep detailed logs and reports of all security operations, incidents, and inspections. Working with Law Enforcement will also be a key part of your role, as you work closely with local law enforcement agencies and other port authorities to identify and respond to security threats. This may involve participating in joint exercises and security drills. You will also be responsible for Training and Awareness , educating port personnel, contractors, visitors, and passengers about security protocols and emergency procedures. Helping arrange and participate in regular security drills will ensure everyone is prepared for potential threats. As part of your duties, you will carry out Risk Assessments to identify potential security risks and vulnerabilities within port facilities. Delivery and Vessel Security will also be a priority, ensuring the safety of incoming and outgoing shipments and vessels, monitoring for suspicious activities like smuggling, human trafficking, or unauthorised access to restricted areas. Finally, effective Communication will be essential in your role, as you will maintain communication with port management, security teams, external agencies, and other stakeholders, providing updates on security status, incidents, and operations.
