DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people. The scale of what we do is extraordinary, the problems we have to solve are rich and complex, and our purpose is unique. We would love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • You are an experienced project manager with a demonstrable history of taking full responsibility for the definition, documentation, and successful completion of a number of large-scale complex projects.
  • Those projects have used both internal and external suppliers.
  • You ensure that effective project control, change control, risk management, and testing processes are maintained, responding to what the data is telling you appropriately.
  • Experience of managing complex external dependencies that have required significant planning and prioritising to ensure pace and quality of delivery is maintained.
  • You communicate with others in a clear, honest, and enthusiastic way to build trust.
  • You explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand and influence senior-level decision making.
  • Experience in identifying appropriate development for both yourself and your team to improve delivery.

You and your role

As an experienced Senior Digital Project Manager, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale complex digital change in DWP. You will lead the team to ensure project controls are in place, managing plans, risks, issues, and dependencies to effective resolution. You will manage appropriate governance and reporting to Digital Directors, communicating and taking ownership of resolving complex issues while influencing decisions that require board level approval. You will manage a varied stakeholder environment, setting the pace for delivery and working with internal teams and/or external suppliers to deliver successfully. You will manage team dynamics, coaching teams to improve flow, quality, and ownership throughout the team. We are a friendly team, and everyone is driven to deliver for our users, but you will also manage conflict and help maintain our positive team culture.
