Sure Start is a government health programme that provides a range of support services for parents and children under the age of four, who live in disadvantaged areas across Northern Ireland.
While professional experience and qualifications are key for this role, make sure to check you have the preferable soft skills before applying if required.

Colin Sure Start covers the wards of Colin Glen, Derriaghy, Kilwee, Poleglass and Twinbrook in outer west Belfast.

** The role of the Programme Supervisor: To supervise the delivery of the Sure Start Developmental Programme for Two Years olds and other Early Years programmes in a designated setting in the Colin area.
To lead and promote a programme of high-quality play experiences designed to enhance childrens social development, build on their communication and language skills and encourage their imagination through play.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Early Years Setting The Programme Supervisor is responsible for the overall safety and well-being of the children participating in designated Colin Sure Start early years settings (Sure Start Developmental Programme for Two Year Olds and Play to Learn programmes in a location) and for implementing the quality standards of the programme.
To be responsible for the planning, preparing and delivery of activities throughout the session, allowing children to experience appropriate play activities for their age and stage of development, in line with programme guidance.
The Early Years Supervisor will ensure that the setting is appropriately prepared before each session commences, with appropriate and varied resources, and will work in collaboration with the Early Learning Coordinator where resources need to be acquired or replaced according to budget.
Ensuring that appropriate staff/child ratios are adhered to at all times, and communicating with Early Learning Coordinator to arrange staff cover when required The Programme Supervisor has responsibility to ensure that regular observations, assessments and planning for each individual childs needs are taking place in line the Programme Guidance and liaising with Programme Support Specialists and other key professionals.
The Early Years Supervisor will carry out and organise home visits as and when required.
The Early Years Supervisor will encourage the active participation of all parents in their designated group settings and ensure parents are kept fully informed of their childs overall progress and development within the group.
The Early Years Supervisor will ensure that the overall safety and wellbeing of the children are met.
The Early Years Supervisor will be responsible for the implementation of all Health & Safety procedures required with Colin Sure Starts settings.
The Early Years Supervisor will keep up-to-date records i.e.
daily register of attendance, an accident book, a plan of group activities and other records as may be required by Social Services, the Department of Education and Colin Sure Start.
To ensure that the policies and procedures of Colin Sure Start are implemented in their allocated setting and adhered to as well as ensuring full compliance with NI Minimum Standards.
Operational To supervise a small team of Early Years Assistants, ensuring delegation of tasks, regular supervision and team meetings are taking place on a regular basis in line with Colin Sure Start policies.
To actively promote and maintain excellent working relationships, and work collaboratively with all staff, children, parents/carers and partner agencies to ensure fully integrated service delivery.
To contribute towards the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of Colin Sure Starts services and activities.
To assist with the planning, preparation and facilitation of Colin Sure Start events in collaboration with the wider Sure Start team.
To be responsible for the development of both the setting and improving practice within the programme, and working to increase the engagement of participating families.
General The Early Years Supervisor will work with other service providers to support parents in the promotion of good quality play experiences for their children.
To proactively promote Sure Starts services ensuring maximum impact on community.
Ensure confidentiality of information relating to children and their families is maintained at all times; by using accurate recording systems, adhering to all data protection, records management and confidentiality policies and procedures of the organisation.
Maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, new policies and good practice.
Comply with all Colin Sure Start policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and codes of conduct.
Participate in supervision, appraisal and appropriate training where required.
Be willing to work flexibly to suit the needs of the community.
To undertake any other relevant duties as considered appropriate by the Sure Start Coordinator or Management Committee.
