Are you an experienced cancer pharmacist with an interest in leading on the development and delivery of highly specialist haematology Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) Protocols for use by Trusts across the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance? This role is based in the highly respected Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC), and you will work with a range of cancer specialists including senior clinicians, pharmacists and nurses across the region to produce, publish and maintain a comprehensive set of treatment protocols for a range of haematological cancers.

Main duties of the job:

  • The role will enable you to showcase your expert knowledge of systemic anti-cancer treatments for cancer patients as well as our leadership skills at a regional level.
  • You will be expected to practice at expert clinical practice level in a specialist cancer area in a substantive post, to inform and complement this role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential and you must be self-motivated, flexible, adaptable and able to work effectively across teams.

Person specification:

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Extensive experience of working at an advanced level (Band 8a or equivalent) in a Cancer Pharmacy specialty, ideally haematology.
  • Experience of providing a clinical pharmacy service to cancer patients.
  • Experience of influencing other senior professionals, including senior pharmacists, consultant medical staff and divisional managers.
  • Experience and evidence of Protocol development.
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks for the dispensing, prescribing, storage and administration of medicines.
  • Experience and evidence of audits and/or research.
  • Experience of analysing and advising on medicines expenditure, and providing and interpreting medicines related financial information to clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Experience of training, teaching, and supervising other professionals.
  • Experience of project management.
Qualifications and Training:
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Post-graduate diploma or Masters degree in clinical pharmacy, clinical oncology, Pharmaceutical Technology & Quality Assurance (PTQA) or a related field, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with other senior healthcare professionals and key stakeholders (internal service and external / regional / national level).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own and others’ work to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a demanding environment.
  • Evidence of effective leadership skills, in accordance with NHS leadership values.
  • Evidence of effective team-working, both within a pharmacy team and across a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Skills for analysing highly complex drug and patient information in a specialist field, in order to provide advice where information may be lacking and opinion differs, and there are a number of complex aspects which do not have obvious solutions.
  • Ability to analyse, communicate and debate complex pharmaceutical issues at senior medical, Trust management team and national expert level.
