SESSIONAL LECTURER for Fall 2025 Term, at .25 FCE – CUPE 3902 Unit 3

Course Description: Much of both the current and projected future global burden of disease and injury is attributed to environmental sources of exposure e.g. contaminated water or air, or changes in environmental conditions e.g. climate change. Environmental epidemiologists have determined whether increases in adverse health outcomes are attributable to environmental exposures e.g. cluster investigations; tracked down etiological linkages between environmental exposures-conditions and health status in particular populations; estimated the attributable burden both in the past and projecting into the future e.g. risk and health impact assessment to inform programs and policies; and increasingly, evaluated the impact of policy and program interventions aimed at reducing the environmental burden of disease. This environmental epidemiology course will include each of these activities in environmental epidemiology. These include the strengthening of framing, information, study design, data analysis & interpretation, application of results, assessment, and communication skills. Class Schedule: Tuesdays (1 – 4 pm)

Sessional dates: September 2025 – December 2025 (Salary inclusive of 4% or 6% vacation pay, where applicable)

Minimum Qualifications: PhD, MD or equivalent; expertise in environmental epidemiology.

Preferred Qualifications: experience in investigation of risk and health impact assessment, policy and program development.

Description of duties: Preparation of syllabus, delivery of lectures (in person, at least 70% of the time), student interaction, marking of assignments, preparation and marking of evaluation materials. Submission of final grades to Graduate Coordinator.

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolment. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
