The Safety Officer will provide the University with a comprehensive range of professional health and safety management services related to a wide variety of campus activities.

Working as part of a team of seven Safety Professionals they will support the University Safety Manager with the planning, development and implementation of health and safety initiatives with significant University impact.
This role covers a wide range of health and safety topics with the main undertakings being the provision of specialist advice and guidance and the development and delivery of safety training programmes to staff and students (where relevant), to meet identified user needs and to achieve regulatory compliance.
The role also involves a practical element in undertaking occupational hygiene services such as noise and vibration assessments, ergonomic assessments, and workplace exposure monitoring together with participation in safety inspections, audits and preparing regular reports to business units.
Another key role will be a requirement to complete incident investigations, together with updating and maintaining records on the Incident Reporting Information System.
This is to support the reporting, analysis, and interpretation of incident data to satisfy both regulatory compliance and internal/external customer needs and expectations.
About the person: You will have a primary degree or equivalent in Science or Engineering (In the absence of a degree, the University will accept the following which has been deemed equivalent:
*Substantial (five years or more) vocational and relevant experience in a safety officer role demonstrating management ability in an appropriateprofessional or specialist capacity to include: Experience as a health and safety advisor or coordinator in a large organization i.e.
with a workforce >250 employees.
Offering advice on potential solutions to health and safety issues arising in a multi-disciplinary organization.
Establishing Health and Safety related policies and procedures for senior management.
Working with and through committees and other groups and presenting reports to management.
Demonstrable evidence of working as part of a team in the delivery of Health and Safety.
A recognised general health and safety qualification of at least NEBOSH diploma level or equivalent.
Qualified to apply for at least Grad IOSH Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health withrelevant experience working in a similar role where the management of health and safety was the main activity undertaken.
Candidates should also have experience in the development and delivery of health and safety training anddemonstrate the ability to work as a part of a team supporting colleagues as necessary.
