NextSense is a not-for-profit organisation supporting people with vision or hearing loss across Australia. We work with children, adults, and their families, providing a holistic approach to hearing services for newborns through to people over 90 years old, and helping children who are blind or have low vision to develop the right skills, mobility, and independence to confidently explore their world. NextSense has been breaking boundaries since 1860, and we’ve been expanding our services ever since. Today, we deliver world-class education (both to children with sensory loss and to professionals in the field), cochlear implants, allied health services, therapy, research, and clinical services to children and adults. The Role

NextSense has an exciting opportunity for a Child Care Worker/Educator to join our team at NextSense Kindergarten. This is a permanent part-time role, working 22.5 hours per week, across three days and reports directly to the Director Kindergarten. The NextSense Kindergarten program provides children aged 3-4 and their families with an early learning community that values and promotes diverse cultures, languages and abilities, to help nurture a lifelong love of learning. Our inclusive programs aim to stimulate a child’s development, and build self-confidence and social skills to best prepare them for school.

You’ll make a difference in this role by:

  • supporting the classroom teacher in the delivery of the Kindergarten program;
  • consulting with the classroom teacher to plan and supervise adjacent program areas;
  • providing assistance to children as required to ensure full participation in the curriculum;
  • supporting children with their hearing devices and technology, check hearing devices at the commencement of each session and provide supports during sessions as required;
  • working with groups of children in planned group activities;
  • undertaking written observations of children as required.

Salary packaging of $15,900 allowing you to increase your take home pay. Paid parental leave of 14 weeks for primary carer and 6 weeks for secondary carer. Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate you meet the following selection criteria and that which is specified in the Position Description.

Required qualifications, skills or experience:

  • Certificate III in Children’s Services or an equivalent qualification approved by ACECQA; OR Working towards an AQF Certificate III in Children’s Services or equivalent qualification approved by ACECQA;
  • Experience working with young children in a kindergarten or childcare setting;
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team providing services to children and their families;
  • a verified Working With Children Check, Criminal Record Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.

Preferred qualifications, skills or experience:

  • Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing;
  • A working knowledge of hearing devices and technology;
  • First Aid Certificate.
