The Finance Department is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Accounts Assistant to join the finance team - a perfect opportunity for someone starting their finance career. Whether you're already enrolled or planning to start your accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA), this role will give you broad, hands-on experience across purchase ledger, sales ledger, reconciliations, month-end processes, and financial compliance.
You'll be supported by an experienced team, develop your practical skills, and gain valuable insights into accounting and finance operations. The successful candidate will be organised, methodical and have a good understanding of financial administration processes and effective communication skills. You will be a team player who can work cooperatively, logically and carry out tasks in an efficient and timely manner. This role also requires an excellent telephone manner and confidence in using Excel spreadsheets. This is a part time position working 20 hours per week and will be based at our client's Watford campus.
Key Responsibilities:- Purchase Ledger and Payments
- Accurately process purchase orders, invoices, and payments in line with the financial regulations.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Supporting payment runs.
- Maintain accurate supplier details.
- Sales Ledger and Income
- Process sales invoices, credit notes, and monitor incoming payments.
- Actively chase debt and monitor outstanding balances in accordance with the credit control procedures.
- Maintain accurate customer records and ensure data integrity across all systems.
- Financial compliance
- Carry out basic finance compliance checks.
- Performing internal financial audits within the site to ensure Financial Regulations are followed.
- Process Amazon and site Credit Card transactions and reconcile them accurately.
- Month-End and Reconciliation
- Supporting with month-end processes.
- Preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Managing budgets as delegated by the Finance Manager.
- Credit card reconciliations.
- Reconciling the Amazon accounts.
- General Finance support
- Maintaining accurate records and filing.
- Assisting with day-to-day finance queries and tasks.
- Supporting the finance team with ad hoc duties.
- Contribute as a member of the site Senior Management Team to site-wide strategy, planning and events.
- Promote a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, professional integrity and service excellence.
- Participate in key college events, rotas and activities as required.
- Comply with the site safeguarding, equality and health & safety policies, setting a strong example for others.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate risks associated with finance operations and contribute to corporate risk management practices.
- Undertake additional responsibilities or projects as agreed with the Director of Finance.
- Actively participate in training, college events, and team-building activities as part of the wider leadership community.
