Job Description

A multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy is seeking a Building Regulations Principal Designer.

You will work both independently and as part of a team on small-medium to large sized projects in Birmingham.

Projects include education, healthcare, industrial, infrastructure, and new build housing including high-rise.

Duties include:

  1. Providing expert advice on the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations .
  2. Conducting plan checks and reviewing designs for compliance with Building Regulations.
  3. Attending client and design team meetings to offer professional advice.
  4. Inspecting properties and buildings at key design stages to ensure regulatory compliance.
  5. Preparing written reports (e.g., End of Design Stage Reports) and maintaining Building Regulations Trackers.
  6. Identifying new business opportunities and nurturing client relationships.
  7. Collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  8. With assistance, contribute to and develop bid submissions and fee proposals.

Qualifications

  1. A degree in a construction-related field (design-focused preferred).
  2. Membership to RICS, CABE or CIOB.

Experience

  1. A strong understanding of the design and construction process, with hands-on experience in inspecting buildings and properties.
  2. Excellent knowledge of the Building Regulations, codes, and any other associated legislation.
  3. The ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  4. Exceptional client-facing skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
