About the role
We are looking for a Head of Internal Audit, Financial Risk to support the Director of Group Internal Audit (GIA) in developing and delivering the Internal Audit strategy and plan for Just Group and all legal entities in the Group.
In this role you will focus on Internal Audits relating to financial risks, including risk management, capital management, investment management as well as treasury and actuarial. You will be responsible for ensuring all audit engagements are scoped appropriately, delivered on time and to budget whilst providing valuable assurance and insight.
Responsibilities
- Supporting Director of Group Internal Audit in raising the profile of GIA and providing thought leadership to IA in strategic and financial risk areas.
- Providing major contribution to developing the Group Internal Audit plan.
- Delivering the relevant parts of the Group Internal Audit Plan to time and ensuring each engagement provides challenge, value and robust assurance.
- Providing thought leadership to the wider Group Internal Audit on risk management, regulatory developments in financial and strategic risks and industry practices.
- Delivering in a clear and articulate way the findings of relevant GIA audits or observations.
- Proactively identifying areas where risk is outside of the business ‘Appetite’ levels.
- Developing and implementing Internal Audit Methodology in line with professional standards.
- Proactively supporting the businesses control framework.
- Building and maintaining effective business stakeholder relationships.
- Managing relationships with Internal Audit co-source partners.
- Drafting Relevant Board and executive committees’ papers.
- Managing IA Functional Risks.
Skills & Experience
- It is essential to be a qualified Actuary.
- Data Analytics or Investment Management related qualifications are desirable.
- Recent senior level experience in actuarial, capital and investment management relevant to the Just business.
- Good understanding of financial risk and capital management principles, techniques and reporting, including up to date understanding and experience of risk quantification techniques. Strong intellectual ability to challenge suitability and application of these techniques.
- Good understanding of market and liquidity risk types and their management.
- Experience of working in Solvency II environment.
- A proven track record of developing and managing an effective and engaged team.
- A proven track record in managing effective third party relationships.
- Demonstrable experience in supporting the development of the strategic direction of a function.
- General knowledge of risk-based Internal Audit procedures, including planning, testing and sampling methods and an understanding of the requirements set out in the Global IA Standards and UK IA Code.
- Broad understanding of the life insurance industry as well as knowledge of those industries on which Just relies for strategically important services such as asset origination and management.
- Good understanding of regulatory context for operation of risk management, including FCA handbook and Solvency 2 Directive.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking ability, able to interpret information from a number of sources and draw together the ‘big picture’ and bring a strategic perspective.
- Ability to establish, maintain and manage effective working relationships with staff at all levels of the business, whilst continuing to maintain independence and objectivity.
- Strong and demonstrable Leadership and Influencing skills.
- High level of IT literacy, including Power BI or equivalent data analytics techniques.
