The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.
The successful candidate will support the Samples team as their primary duty, across a broad variety of tasks including preparation of emulsions, liquid compounding, and powdered flavors and seasonings. On occasion, the position will also support the Flavour team, as per business demand. You will perform physical and chemical testing using lab or pilot plant equipment. Provide feedback to Flavorist including operations performed, observations, results, and organoleptic evaluations. Must conform to recommended safety, quality, and GMP practices. Maintain current raw material inventory and flavor retention libraries. Care for equipment and arrange for repair/replacement if necessary.
Over a period of time (typically 2 years in roll), where the appropriate level of development, knowledge, and required skill-set has been demonstrated, the opportunity to enroll onto the Flavourist Training Program is a possibility.
What you’ll do:
- Accurately compound a broad range of flavors including emulsions, liquid mixtures, and spray dried flavors and seasonings from formulations provided by a flavorist.
- Operate a pilot scale spray dryer, care for equipment, and arrange for repair/replacement if necessary (Samples and Flavour labs).
- Conduct physical, chemical, and organoleptic testing; making oral and written observations and judgments on process and outcome to provide feedback to the flavorist team.
- Maintain a safe and professional laboratory environment and a current raw material inventory, as well as flavour retention libraries.
- Maintain a specific sample library; liaising with production to obtain materials.
- Participate in formal Sensory panels as well as day to day organoleptic evaluations and screenings of flavors.
What you’ll bring:
- A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Food Science/Technology is preferred with experience in the flavour or food industry, an advantage.
- Strong communication skills, with written and oral English a must, along with the ability to work within short time-frames and stay focused under pressure.
- Good ability in general lab techniques.
- Good general computer skills (MS Office, ERP).
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and to follow procedures when sampling from production (Raw materials and final product).
- Problem solving to achieve goals.
