I am working exclusively with Solace Women’s Aid, who offer free advice and support to women and children in London to build safe and strong lives free from abuse.
Your new role
As the Head of Business Support, you will provide expert advice, guidance, and reporting to ensure that Solace Women’s Aid meets its statutory responsibilities regarding health and safety. You will also provide innovative solutions to existing issues and ensure that future changes are anticipated.
Acting as a subject matter expert on H&S compliance across Solace Women’s Aid, you will ensure compliance with all statutory regulations, official guidance standards, and best practices, including the development and implementation of an effective risk management approach to compliance within Solace Women’s Aid. Through management of the Business Support Team, you will ensure all properties/spaces used by the organization remain safe and equipped to maintain PI spaces for our staff and service users.
The Head of Business Support will have line management responsibilities for the Facilities Manager and the Office Coordinator.
SKILLS AND ACTIVITIES
- Health and Safety Management experience in a technical environment – residential property, social housing, maintenance, or facilities.
- An understanding of all aspects of Health & Safety management – risk assessments, building compliance activities (electrical, gas, water, lighting, building checks, fire safety, etc.).
- Knowledge of contractor management, preferably within repair and maintenance.
- Awareness of health, safety, and environmental management systems (e.g., ISO45001, ISO14001).
- Experience of fire safety, wellbeing, and environmental impacts and management.
- Good problem-solving and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make high-quality presentations in a variety of environments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
- Experience using IT systems, including databases and Microsoft Office packages.
- Management of health and safety databases, portals, and intranet.
- Good people management skills and able to influence and persuade staff at all levels.
- Practical and pragmatic approach to health and safety.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills – able to present to an audience and train others.
- ‘Can do’ approach and attention to detail.
- Well-organised and able to work on own initiative.
- Full driving licence and use of a vehicle for business purposes.

- Manage holiday cover within the Business Support Team.

What you’ll need to succeed
- Working towards or have already achieved Chartered status of IOSH or the equivalent membership body (Institute of Risk and Safety Management, IIRSM).
- IOSH managing safety qualifications.
- NEBOSH National General Certification.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD.
