We’re Atom… The bank that’s leading the fintech charge! We’re not like the rest. We’re true innovators, and we’re redefining what a bank should be. Ours is a bank for today and the future, a mobile-first bank. Forget the stuffy branches, with Atom you can bank whenever, wherever, faster, and simpler.
Could you be the next innovator to join us?
What will your typical day look like? Different that’s for sure. Technology is the beating heart of Atom bank. We’re on a mission to continuously evolve our capabilities, and as a Technical Architect within our Platform & Enterprise value stream, you’ll be instrumental in shaping the technical landscape that accelerates software development and empowers our engineers. This isn’t just about design; it’s about deeply understanding the complexities of our systems and influencing the platforms developers code in, directly impacting our ability to ship features to customers.
We’re looking for an innovator - someone who has seen "the good, the bad, and the ugly" of architecture, who thrives on challenge, and is eager to define technical solutions to make our core banking platform truly reusable and scalable.
What you’ll be doing:
- Platform Innovation: Design and define technical solutions for our core banking platform and other shared, reusable platforms, driving best practices for developers.
- Architectural Vision: Produce high-quality Hybrid and Cloud Architecture artifacts (Infrastructure, Platform, SaaS), including robust Security and Operational Architecture best practices.
- Strategic Influence: Cultivate strong relationships with technology stakeholders, maintaining in-depth knowledge of strategic roadmaps to develop and maintain current and future state architectures.
- End-to-End Design: Design and oversee the implementation of integrated systems, contributing to architectural blueprints and reference architectures.
- Champion Best Practice: Act as a champion for technology architecture and IT standards, providing expert consultancy and ensuring compliance with architectural governance.
- Problem Solving: Identify architectural risks and propose innovative alternatives and solutions, unblocking issues with both internal and external parties.
- Hands-On Engagement: Be willing to roll up your sleeves - reviewing UX designs, testing software, engaging in architecture and code reviews, and contributing to user stories and technical documentation.
What do we need from you?
- In-depth practical knowledge of Cloud architecture.
- A strong background in DevOps or Software Engineering.
- Significant practical experience with virtualisation and containerisation technologies (Virtual Machines, Docker, Kubernetes, GKE).
- In-depth knowledge of DevOps, SecOps, FinOps, and DataOps practices, with expertise in building core banking platforms, data/analytics, and application capability on a Cloud Platform.
- Clear and concise communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to effectively engage and provide guidance to engineers, challenge when needed, and simplify complex ideas.
- A self-starter who is proactive, self-aware, and open to changing their mind. Must thrive in a peer-review environment and handle critiques constructively.
What you’ll get from us?
- Flexible hybrid working (in Newcastle from September)
- 4-day work week
- Discretionary Cash Bonus - Individual and Company Performance based.
- Incredibly generous company pension scheme (maximum of 13% of Atom input - you can put in more)
- 'All About Me' fund: £200 per year to spend on personal development.
- 22.5 days annual leave plus public holidays
- Private Medical Insurance, Health Cash Plan & Life Insurance
- Electric Vehicle Scheme
