Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 6 Orthopaedic Practitioner with BOA Casting Certificate and excellent communication skills to work as part of the Royal London Hospital’s Fracture Clinic team for paediatric services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing individual patient care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care in accordance with agreed policies and professional guidelines by providing a plastering service for the paediatric orthopaedic clinic, supporting theatres, inpatient areas, and other areas within the fracture clinic.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of casting and splinting service provision across our paediatric orthopaedic services. The post holder will work as an integral member of the orthopaedic team with dedication to our paediatric population.
Person specification
Qualifications
- BOA registered (British Orthopaedic Association)
- AOT (Association of Orthopaedic Technician) Ponseti Course or equivalent
- Other professional education qualification
- Paediatric Basic Life Support
Experience
- Experience of working with children 0 – 16 years old
- 2 years post qualification in an outpatient orthopaedic setting or extensive experience working as a plaster technician in a clinical area
- Talipes experience – working with children 0-16 years old
Knowledge and Skills
- Effective communicator, able to provide and receive complex, sensitive information.
- Able to work without supervision and use own initiative.
- Awareness of own knowledge and skills framework with ability to identify learning needs.
- Sound clinical skills (wound care, removal of sutures, clips, and K-wires).
- Organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- Able to make appropriate clinical referrals for ongoing care management of patients.
- Experience with Virtual Fracture Clinic.
- Previous experience in teaching/training.
