The Role

Are you ready to bring your toxicology expertise to a global FMCG leader known for innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence? At Imperial Brands, we’re looking for a passionate, self-driven and detail-oriented Product Stewardship Toxicologist to join our forward-thinking team. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide expert guidance on the safety and regulatory assessment of ingredients and materials across our diverse product portfolio—including both combustible and next-generation products (NGPs). You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of toxicological evaluation by leading and evolving our Product Stewardship Testing Programme. Principle Accountabilities

  • Be a Trusted Expert in Toxicology: Serve as a key advisor, delivering high-level toxicological insights that directly influence product safety and innovation.
  • Lead High-Impact Projects: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for toxicology and risk assessment across major initiatives.
  • Shape the Future of Risk Assessment: Design and refine advanced toxicological and exposure models that meet internal and regulatory standards, supporting rapid and cost-effective decision-making.
  • Safeguard Consumer Health: Provide expert input on health-related consumer complaints and ensure compliance with EU safety directives to protect public health and brand integrity.
  • Drive Scientific Excellence and Compliance: Oversee technical reporting, maintain toxicological databases, and help the business stay ahead of evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Represent and Grow Professionally: Represent Imperial Brands externally in relevant industry groups and scientific conferences/meetings and write external publications or critiques.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Advanced Expertise: Hold a post-graduate qualification (or equivalent) in Toxicology, ready to apply your academic knowledge in a high-impact role.
  • Real-World Experience: Bring your background from commercial, industrial, or regulatory environments to influence product safety and innovation.
  • Professional Recognition: EU Registered Toxicologist status (or equivalent) preferred—demonstrate your credibility and leadership in the field.
  • Scientific Insight: Confidently review and critique scientific literature, contextualising developments to guide business and regulatory decisions.
  • Clear Communicator: Translate complex science into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences—from senior leaders to industry peers.
  • Collaborative & Driven: Thrive both independently and in teams, with strong influencing skills, digital fluency, and a calm, logical approach under pressure.
