Location: London or Reading (Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite, 2-3 days remote)

Contract: Day rate, inside IR35 (£400-£450 per day)

About the Role: We’re recruiting for Cost Controllers to join a dynamic PMO team supporting strategic programmes within the Asset Management & Engineering sector. This contract role offers the chance to contribute to large-scale capital projects with a forward-thinking organisation, blending onsite and remote working.

Scope of Role: You will lead and manage cost control processes, ensuring robust planning, monitoring, and reporting of costs across projects. Working within a ‘Hub and Spoke’ PMO model, you’ll help maintain cost baselines, provide clear insights for decision-making, and support change control from a cost perspective. The role requires strong collaboration across project delivery teams, commercial and finance functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain cost baselines for projects and sub-programmes, ensuring accuracy in forecasts and actuals.
  • Provide monthly cost reporting and insights to support senior stakeholders.
  • Support the change control process from a cost impact perspective.
  • Lead and develop cost control resources within the team, fostering strong cost management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with established Portfolio Controls Framework and standards.

Experience Required:

  • Proven track record in cost control within large-scale capital projects or programmes, ideally within asset management or engineering environments.
  • Experience developing and managing cost baselines, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and ability to provide actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with asset management principles and how they apply to project cost control.
  • Experience working in a PMO or project controls environment, preferably within regulated industries such as water, utilities, or infrastructure.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing or leading cost control activities or teams is preferred.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Degree or equivalent in Business Management, Finance, Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • Experience with project controls tools and systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
