Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and technically adept Lead Solar Engineer to spearhead the delivery of utility-scale solar PV projects across the UK. This leadership role involves overseeing the full engineering lifecycle—from concept design through to grid connection and final commissioning—ensuring projects meet the highest technical, commercial, and regulatory standards. You’ll play a pivotal role in accelerating the UK’s transition to a low-carbon future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering design and execution of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, ensuring alignment with DNO/NGESO requirements and UK building, planning, and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, construction managers, and commercial teams to deliver successful EPC and turnkey solutions.
- Take ownership of grid connection studies and interface coordination with National Grid and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
- Oversee site assessments, yield analysis, and layout optimisation using industry-standard software (e.g. PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, ETAP).
- Develop and implement robust QA/QC protocols, commissioning plans, and performance testing procedures.
- Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers and drive continuous improvement within the engineering function.
- Represent the business in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, authorities, and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven track record delivering large-scale solar PV projects in the UK or a similar regulatory environment.
- In-depth knowledge of UK grid connection standards (G99/G100), energy storage interface integration, and renewable energy compliance frameworks.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng with the IET, IMechE, or similar recognised UK institution is highly desirable.
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related discipline.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with CDM 2015 regulations, HSE standards, and UK planning/permitting procedures for renewables.
- Full UK driving licence and unrestricted right to work in the United Kingdom.
