Venesky Brown are looking for an Interface Engineer to join the Sizewell C team. Based out of the London office (hybrid working), this role is an initial 12 month day rate contract with scope for extending.

Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

The Civil Works Programme (CWP) comprises a scope of work valued at circa £9bn and this has been divided into three delivery sub-programmes as follows:

  • Enabling & Earthworks
  • Main Civils & Ancillary Works
  • Marine & Tunnelling

The Integration function within the SZC’s Civil Works Programme (CWP) is the focal point in supporting the co-ordination of the activities in each of these three CWP Sub-Programmes and the activities of Site Delivery, Nuclear Island (NI) and Conventional Island (CI) programmes, along with Site Operations.

Reporting to the Interface Project Manager, the Interface Engineer will:

  • Be an integral link within the CWP Interface Management Plan, monitoring and co-ordinating interfaces throughout, and supporting the CWP teams and SZC Project Management Office (PMO) to remain aligned.
  • Produce and maintain appropriate, standardized documents and regular reporting to the senior management and other stakeholders reflecting key issues, resolutions, and performance to enable them to effectively understand risks and impacts related to Interfaces on the project.
  • Ensure a collaborative approach is maintained across the team to facilitate the planning and delivery of effective and efficient interface management, ensuring all issues are clearly understood by teams and addressed, and appropriate interventions developed and implemented.
  • Support the Project Managers (PMs) with interface agreements that deliver ‘best for project’ outcomes whilst ensuring health & safety standards are maintained at the highest level.

Principal Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Interface Project Manager, the Delivery Engineer has overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining the Interface Management Plan throughout the project life cycle by performing the following actions:

  • Implementing project specific Interface Management processes.
  • Capturing the necessary interface agreements between teams.
  • Clearly defined responsibilities for Interface Management.
  • Monitoring progress related to the Interface Management.
  • Ensuring that the schedule requirements are maintained and identifying / initiating any change requests that may arise out of the Interface requirements.
  • Ensuring that Interface issues are handled and closed.

A key accountability for this role will be the preparation, approvals and effective use by the teams on the CWP of Interface Milestone Definition Sheets (IMDS) for CWP (Level 0, 1 and where appropriate Level 2) Milestones utilising a standard format comprising the following generic section headings:

  • Milestone Success and Acceptance Criteria
  • Milestones Completion Context
  • Scope Drawing / Visualisation
  • Integrated Work Schedule (IWS)
  • Critical Path IWS – Principal “Receiver” Follow-on Activities
  • Principal “Deliverer” Scope included in the Milestone
  • Key SZC Cross-Programme Dependencies
  • Excluded Scope
  • Impact of Non-delivery of Milestone

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience:

Knowledge & Skills

  • An understanding of the challenges faced in interface management on a large infrastructure/engineering project (or similar) on-site experience, knowledge of construction activities, approaches, standards and expectations.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Enabling & Earthworks experience desirable.
  • Use of innovative thinking to overcome challenges and implement solutions which minimise both disruption to third party and to effective project delivery.
  • Understanding and communicating complex technical and commercial issues to the satisfaction of key stakeholders.
  • The ability to build, maintain and manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships, addressing their diverse expectations and potentially conflicting agendas, fostering their optimal engagement and contribution to the development and implementation of effective strategies and plans to manage stakeholders.
  • General professional qualities such as accuracy, attention to detail, tenacity, result-oriented, the ability to work well within a team, good organisational skills and the ability to work independently and be proactive.
  • Strong assurance and challenge skills with excellent communication/interpersonal skills notably with various levels of the organisation and externally.
  • Discretion - Confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in Interface Management on a complex engineering delivery for a major infrastructure project.
  • Experience managing interface management issues on a large infrastructure/engineering project (or similar) on-site experience, knowledge of construction activities, approaches, standards and expectations.
