2nd Line Engineer

We’re recruiting for an experienced 2nd Line Engineer on behalf of a leading IT services provider. This is a varied, hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys mentoring junior team members, and is comfortable providing both remote and on-site support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide second-line technical support via the Service Desk, including hardware and software troubleshooting
• Attend client sites as required for proactive and reactive support
• Ensure long-term, cost-effective solutions that align with client needs
• Support and mentor junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practices
• Recommend system improvements and upgrades based on client requirements and service offerings
• Deliver a professional, proactive approach to customer service
• Maintain a logical, methodical approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2003–2022) and Desktop OS (XP–11)
• Experience with Office 365 setup and administration
• VMware and/or Hyper-V administration skills
• Hosted Desktop and Terminal Server environments
• Solid networking experience (DNS, routing, switching)
• Familiarity with VoIP systems, ideally 3CX

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with Cisco or Draytek routers and firewalls
• Apple device support
• Knowledge of Azure AD, Intune, and Microsoft Defender
• Group Policy management
• Exposure to Ubiquiti or Cisco wireless systems
• Previous experience within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment
• Relevant accreditations (CompTIA, Microsoft, Apple)
