Head of Engineering

Are you an experienced engineering leader with a passion for maritime infrastructure? We are seeking a Head of Engineering to oversee harbour repairs exceeding £100 million over the next decade, ensuring the efficient, safe, and effective maintenance of the City Docks. This role will initially be a 6 month contract with potential permanent opportunities if of interest. You will be responsible for:  Develop and implement a strategic approach to harbour repairs and infrastructure maintenance. Expert guidance on engineering and dredging matters, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations, EMAS/ISO14001 standards, and all relevant legislation. Lead the planning, delivery, and management of capital programmes, ensuring the docks remain operational, sustainable, and fit for the future. Budget management Promote, plan, and organise engineering works in alignment with the Harbour Act/Order, Byelaws, and policies. The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience: Proven leadership experience in engineering, maritime infrastructure, or harbour maintenance. Strong knowledge of dredging, dock engineering, and regulatory compliance. Proven experience and skills in mechanical/hydraulic/marine/electrical maintenance. Experience managing large-scale capital programmes and multi-million-pound budgets. Ideally Health and Safety Certification such as NEBOSH Excellent stakeholder management skills Commitment to sustainability, ensuring environmental best practices are embedded in all projects.
