Are you a commercially focused Commercial Professional with experience in public sector building projects? We’re supporting a leading UK services business in the search for a Commercial Director to oversee a national portfolio of small to medium capital works.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to step up into a broader leadership role, while remaining hands-on across project governance, reporting, and commercial delivery.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for the commercial oversight of multiple construction projects (typically small in value), acting as a strategic partner across the bid, delivery, and closeout phases. You’ll work across a diverse portfolio spanning the UK, with a focus on quality, risk control, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead commercial management across a portfolio of public sector capital projects
• Provide accurate and timely reporting to senior leadership and internal functions
• Ensure full governance and compliance across contracts, approvals, and project controls
• Oversee commercial input into bids, cost plans, and subcontractor management
• Develop junior commercial staff and support high-performing teams
• Engage with legal teams on contractual matters and dispute resolution

Essential Experience:

✅ Quantity Surveying background – ideally with relevant professional qualifications (RICS preferred)

✅ Construction experience, specifically on public sector buildings (non-residential)

✅ Strong governance and commercial reporting expertise

✅ Comfortable working on multiple small-value projects rather than single large-scale builds

✅ Ability to operate at board level and engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders

✅ Experience with JCT, NEC3/4, and public sector frameworks
