Senior Backend Engineer (PHP/Laravel) – Remote (UK-based)

A fast-growing SaaS business in the motoring industry is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join its backend team. This is a chance to work on a high-traffic platform that helps modernise the way drivers, operators, and businesses interact with vehicle-related services across the UK.

The Role

You’ll play a key part in designing, building, and maintaining scalable microservices that support the core platform. The team works with a modern PHP/Laravel setup and deploys into a containerised AWS environment. There’s a strong emphasis on clean architecture, testing, and performance.

What You\’ll Be Doing

• Developing and maintaining backend services using PHP and Laravel
• Following TDD best practices
• Deploying services in Docker and working with AWS.
• Collaborating with product managers, engineers, and QA to deliver new features
• Supporting and improving CI/CD pipelines for smoother releases
• Participating in architectural discussions and tech debt planning

What You’ll Need

• Solid experience with PHP and Laravel in a commercial setting
• Experience working with microservices and event-driven systems
• Strong database knowledge.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and ideally, AWS
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and agile environments
• A proactive mindset and strong collaboration skills

Nice to Have

• Golang experience
• Experience scaling backend services in a SaaS or B2B context
