We are seeking an experienced Commercial Financial Services/Payments Lawyer for an initial 3-month contract. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payments and financial services, with the ability to operate at pace in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drafting and negotiating agreements with a wide variety of contracts with customers, partners, and suppliers, including back-to-back and subcontracting arrangements, and playing a role in supervising similar activities undertaken by junior members of the team.
- Advising stakeholders on various commercial and regulatory aspects of contracts and ensuring appropriate advice is given to the wider business by the legal team.
- Assisting with regulatory change and corporate governance issues as and when required.
- Advising on payments related law, regulation, and scheme requirements, including reviewing, drafting, and negotiating terms and conditions, providing advice and supporting internal projects and working groups.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across the business.
- Being a culture generator who furthers the values, objectives and goals of the legal team set out by the Head of Legal.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified solicitor holding a practising certificate with the ability to practice in England & Wales with ideally 4 -6 years’ experience (in-house and/or firm) of commercial and corporate work, preferably involving Financial Services. Candidates with direct experience of the Principal Duties and Responsibilities in a comparable Fin Tech company involved in Financial Services but with less than 4 - 6 years’ experience will be considered.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in payments, banking regulations, outsourcing principles and conduct rules, and applying such matters to drafting customer, supplier and product terms.
- Excellent understanding of key regulatory and contractual principles (e.g. contract formation, indemnities, consequential loss, liability regimes).
- Experience in drafting, negotiating, and advising on commercial contracts, including subcontracting/back-to-back arrangements.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet critical deadlines and operate in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to operate autonomously using initiative, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent legal and business judgment.
- Working knowledge of Data Protection legislation.
- Experience in foreign exchange and multicurrency products, IP/IT and the applicable regulatory requirements (nice to have).
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
- Good understanding of key contractual principles (e.g., contract formation, indemnities, consequential loss, liability regimes and outsourcing).
- Good understanding of corporate/commercial issues.
- Working knowledge of relevant UK financial services.
- Awareness of payment systems, retail banking and consumer finance.
- Awareness and/or working knowledge of the UK regulatory ecosystem (nice-to-have).
