Our client, a well-established leader in civil engineering and infrastructure, is highly regarded for its commitment to staff development, low staff turnover, and focus on renewable energy projects. They are currently offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Planning Manager to take a pivotal role in the planning and delivery of a major renewable scheme in the North of Scotland. This is a permanent position and will involve key project elements including bridges, overhead lines (OHL), cabling, and substations. Based on-site in Fort Augustus, this role comes with a company vehicle and a subsistence package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning & Scheduling: Develop, structure, and lead the project programme, ensuring all activities are efficiently planned and sequenced. Maintain an accurate, fully linked Primavera P6 programme in accordance with contractual obligations. Ensure the programme is fully resourced and reflects any updates to the execution strategy through close collaboration with the project delivery team.
  • Programme Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor progress against the programme and ensure timely delivery of weekly and monthly progress reports. Identify potential delays or risks and implement mitigation measures to maintain project progress. Highlight dependencies and key interfaces between stakeholders to facilitate smooth coordination across the project.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the key link between planning and site operations, facilitating structured meetings and providing regular updates. Liaise with stakeholders to ensure agreement on timelines, risks, and key deliverables. Champion planning best practice and support the continued development of the planning function.
  • Continuous Improvement & Risk Management: Identify programme risks and opportunities, recommending strategic improvements as appropriate. Support change control processes by evaluating and integrating project changes into the schedule. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, driving greater efficiency and innovation in planning delivery.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience: Background as a Site Engineer or Site Agent with substantial planning experience in power transmission or related projects.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Primavera P6 and a sound understanding of planning methodologies, with experience interpreting tender and contract documentation.
  • Project Planning Expertise: Strong capability in developing, managing, and monitoring programmes, along with risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Leadership Qualities: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Industry Knowledge: Thorough understanding of construction methodologies, plant and equipment, and labour resourcing.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and confident communicator with the ability to engage across all levels of the business.
  • Qualifications: A valid and relevant CSCS card is essential.
  • Desirable Attributes: Experience working within NEC3 contract frameworks. Previous mentoring or coaching of junior planning professionals. Familiarity with change management principles and techniques.
