The Infrastructure Platforms team manages all server-related infrastructure and hardware within the datacentres in Clarks, including virtualisation, storage, compute, backup and recovery. We now have an excellent opportunity for someone keen to get experience in a broad range of systems and services. In larger companies, there’s often a narrower focus, but working in the small team we have in Clarks means the role has accountability for many technologies.
What You'll Do
- Day-to-day activities can vary from remote management of operating systems, performance monitoring and tuning, troubleshooting (often with broad involvement from multiple teams and including out-of-hours support), hardware replacement and maintenance of storage appliances, cabling, and firmware updates.
- Each day can be very different and requirement for out-of-hours support is needed on a rota basis.
What You'll Bring with You
- You will have a strong foundation in IT support, including troubleshooting hardware, operating systems, and network issues.
- Ideally 3-5 years of experience in AIX/Linux system administration.
- Experience of managing IBM Power hardware, including setup, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, firmware and software management.
- Some experience of IBM Storage is preferable including provisioning, snapshot restore and replication policy maintenance.
- An opportunity to learn IBM Workload Scheduler if you have no previous knowledge to help support our Operations Team.
- Experience in troubleshooting, capacity planning and DR procedures.
- Maintaining SFTP servers and scripts.
- An opportunity to learn IBM Spectrum Protect our backup and recovery tool of choice, including maintenance of tape libraries and disk backup targets.
- Experience working in very small teams, needing to make risk-based decisions under pressure.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with both the wider team and business project teams as required.
