Goldman Sachs

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm that provides a wide range of financial services to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments, and individuals. Founded in 1869, the firm is headquartered in New York and maintains offices in all major financial centers around the world.

Divisional Overview

Global Banking and Markets division provides financing, advisory, risk distribution, and hedging services for institutional and corporate clients. Within Global Banking and Markets, our electronic trading professionals focus on delivering ideas, execution, and liquidity to a wide array of clients trading the entire range of equity products, including physical shares, Futures, ETFs, synthetic shares, baskets, options, and other derivatives. Our engineers play important roles in several areas within the division. Some engineers build automated trading platforms and algorithms for the firm and its clients, taking an active part in the increasing shift from voice to electronic trading. Others sit on trading desks, creating cutting-edge derivative pricing models, and developing empirical models to provide insight into market behavior. Still others develop systems and processes that assist with making the entire trade life cycle more seamless.

Futures Engineering

Goldman Sachs Futures Electronic Trading offers a best-in-class comprehensive suite of trading strategies to help clients achieve their trading objectives and navigate a variety of market conditions leveraging historical analyses, quantitative models, and real-time market information. These strategies are built on a highly distributed, scalable, low latency trading platform, which processes billions of transactions daily in the low microsecond range, with minimal jitter. Our engineers are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining this trading platform as well as the strategies running on the platform, in a collaborative environment. The software our engineers write is of a very high standard: it is client and market facing with real time SLAs and can have high financial and regulatory impact. Some engineers focus on implementing the platform, its surrounding ecosystem and order management workflows, writing highly performant code and optimizing its interaction with the hardware and infrastructure it is executing on. Others work on building the trading models, signals and algorithmic logic which constitute the trading strategies.

Futures Production Engineering

Our responsibilities include change management and implementation, second level support, observability and re-engineering.

Second level Support :

We act as the support team for the support team: the frontline support and coverage group handle the typical and common configuration of the system. Still, on a typical day, a portion of the day may be taken to dig into issues of greater complexity, and not only fixing the root causes or immediate triggers, but also identifying the more structural causes and weaknesses that the issues bring to light and help implement and/or follow up for the fixes, be them technical, procedural or organizational, working with the development team, desk and management. Second level support help us build a detailed knowledge of the code and the topology of the trading plant, allowing us to suggest changes and re-planning.

Change management:

We help rolling out complex changes through building tooling, project management, risk management, release planning and staging.

Observability and planning:

We write and run the toolkit that allows us to monitor, understand, and preempt problems on the platform.

Your profile

You enjoy fixing stuff. You love that feeling when something does exactly what you want it to do and everything lines up beautifully. You love understanding how things work beyond the surface, and understanding what every cog does in the machine.

You feel comfortable jumping from analyzing why low latency code behaves a certain way to creating custom reconciliation reports on large data sets.

You enjoy writing code that tells the story of a program. You enjoy figuring out that piece of the puzzle that eluded everyone before. You like sharing what you know with people around you. You are familiar with Linux, system administration basics, working on the command-line and writing and debugging scripts.

Ideally, you already know python, and you have worked with templating (mini)languages like jinja, Apache FreeMarker, Django templates or similar. Any experience with Kafka, Java, InfluxDb or Prometheus time series are desirable extras. If you have been running production systems before, as a sysadmin, production engineer or DevOps person before, even better. But more importantly, you want to learn new things, and you want to explore.
